Extended Family
Extended Family is an art project in which I question basic intuitions about portraiture, family, identity, control and dependence.
I paint faces of different people on top of each other until a new face emerges. People I know personally see and mingle with people from far beyond my personal habitat. All these people become part of my Extended Family.
Parts of the series were exhibited at Art Ghent at the SMAK museum in Ghent as part of Ben Benaouisse's total performance in 2021; in Santo, Ghent, in 2021; at WARP, Sint-Niklaas in 2022; at the Duffel Triënnale 2022 and at BEEN in Bruges in 2023.
An art book about the Extended Family project has been published, with contributions of artists, curators and philosophers. Order the book : aaronwillem7@gmail.com
